English Smocked Basic Yoke

My daughter Rachel regularly makes me smile.  The day after Easter, in her play, this is what she put on.  It’s a basic yoke dress that I made for Hannah years ago.  It is smocked with a Cheryl Lohmann’s Classic Smocking book that my husband bought for me as a gift a while back.  The geometric design includes small bullion flowers.  I used Ginger Snap’s Basic Yoke pattern that I purchased from Carol Harris when she had a store in Tennessee.  I should have taken a picture of the back, because the extra fullness of the fabric looks very sweet.  I bought this fabric for $20 from a friend, who bought it from a friend who was closing her custom sewing shop.  I would still love to know the origin of it.  It was nice to work with…  It is a microcheck.  Her hat was purchased at the Mantorville Square Antique Shop, where another hat of her taste lies.

  1. Connie, she is such a charming and beautiful child–just like your others. The dress is made even more wonderful with the addition of the hat. The girl has classic good taste! Hurrah!
