Lydia (13.5 years) made this shortalls outfit for her youngest brother, Ben. This is her 4-H fair entry, and she received a blue ribbon this week.
The pattern is found in the book, Mastering Shadow Work Embroidery, by Wendy Poche Schoen.
Lydia gained the skill of shadow work embroidery when she attended a meeting of the Lakes & Prairies Smockers last year. The “puppy” above is worked in DMC thread that “shadows” through from behind the white pique fabric. The red and white specked fabric is a cotton fabric with 3 percent Spandex purchased from Ginny’s Fine Fabric in Rochester.
