Shirt and Shorts, For Cute

I’ve had more fun than should be allowed lately working on a little button-down shirt and a pair of shorts for lit’l Ben.

I used the Oliver+S Sketchbook Shirt and Shorts pattern in Size 18 to 24 months.  Ben measured well below the standard measurements, so I chose not to make the 2T size.  The fabric is Bear Threads Ltd. Swiss broadcloth, and the buttons are pearl buttons also from Bear Threads.

I altered the shirt pattern to create a traditional collar and stand.  I understand the reasoning behind making the collar and stand in one piece for the short little neck of a little guy, but I wanted to make a classic shirt which includes a collar with a collar stand.  Image

The shorts have elastic only in the back portion of the waist band.  They include a mock fly and the button serves only as decoration.  They are made from English imported super fine twill from Spechler-Vogel Textiles.

I liked how the shorts came together.  I thought they were fun to make, and Liesl gives tips for making them dressy or casual.  They also include cute little pockets, which was the first feature Ben tried out; boys love their pockets.
