Sewing clothing for my kids is a kind of “icing on the cake” in life for me. I enjoy working with my kids to develop an outfit that meets their needs. It’s a practical canvas for a creative outlet.
This is the design Hannah, age 11, sketched.
Fabric Finders’ purple pique and print 744 were the chosen fabrics for the project.
We also created a skirt for Rachel, age 5, that includes four godet. A godet (pronounced goday) is an inset in a garment that is usually shaped like a piece of pie. This picture cannot capture the beauty of a skirt with a number of godet. The godet allow the skirt to flow and twirl even more. We added buttons and a hemstitched heart applique at the godet points, keeping the points secure for the most active of children.
